In Researchers 2, we focus on ensuring learners continue their personal development by building on the skills they have developed throughout Yeoman Park Academy and applying them to real-world contexts.
Each morning, learners begin with structured “box work” activities designed to support fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, and early literacy. These tasks include writing, reading, comprehension, and sensory regulation, often linked to themes such as celebrations around the world.
Learners in year 10 and above follow one of the Aim Award pathways, working towards either an Award or Certificate in Personal Progress or Personal and Social Development (Entry level 1). This recognised qualification supports progression and is widely accepted by colleges.
To further promote independence, learners take part in weekly travel training sessions. These provide valuable real-life experiences, from developing road safety awareness and using different modes of transport, to completing practical responsibilities within the school environment such as delivering messages, answering phone calls, and carrying out assigned jobs.
Researchers 2 learners also continue to access the school’s core curriculum, including My Communication, My Thinking and Problem Solving, My PSED, My Creativity, and The World About Me. Learning activities and resources are carefully adapted to match each learner’s cognitive abilities and personal interests.
Throughout the day, opportunities are embedded for learners to develop personal care skills and further enhance fine motor control through meaningful class-based responsibilities. Learners earn “wages” as recognition for their efforts and achievements, which they can spend at the weekly tuck shop on Fridays.
