In Adventurers 1, learners begin each morning by following individualised sensory diets and regulation activities to help them prepare for learning. To further support regulation and engagement, the first session of the day is sensology, which enables learners to explore different senses. This is followed by our hello session, which promotes communication, social interaction, and peer engagement.
During the morning, learners take part in two curriculum-based sessions covering key areas such as My Communication, My Thinking and Problem Solving, My PSED, My Creativity, and The World Around Me. Our approach is practical, hands on, and highly individualised to meet the needs of each learner. Sessions are designed to be engaging, sensory, and relevant, supporting learners to build skills and retain new learning.
Throughout the day, learners are offered movement breaks and regulation activities to help them remain settled and able to cope with the demands of the school day. Mealtimes take place within the classroom to maintain a calm and familiar environment, although learners who are able are encouraged to visit the dinner hall to sit and eat or collect their meal.
In the afternoon, once learners are regulated, we complete our mini maths and sensory sounds sessions. The end of the day mirrors the start, with learners engaging in regulation activities to support a smooth transition home.
Across the day, we prioritise providing learners with opportunities to make choices wherever possible. Our learning environment includes individual spaces for self regulation, offering support during periods of heightened anxiety. No two days are ever the same—we work hard to ensure learning is meaningful, enjoyable, and engaging for every learner.
