In Investigators 4 we have a brilliant group of vibrant, lively learners with unique personalities that make for a fun class where we learn and grow together. Each day is carefully structured to give predictability to allow the learners to know how their days feel, giving them the confidence and stability needed.
We start each day by the learners being invited to share breakfast. This is a time to have social time chatting with staff and peers, whilst developing independence of making their own breakfast. We then have ‘hello’ where we say good morning to one another, consider the weather (including predicting the current temperature), check the day, month and year and look ahead to what the day will consist of. This morning routine every day gives us a positive start to the morning and allows everyone to be ready for learning before we start with a short twenty-minute lesson before play time.
After play each day, the lights go off, relaxing music is turned on and we have access to a range of sensory tools in a quiet, regulating environment. This valuable time gets us ready for engaging well in our next lesson which is a longer lesson until lunch time.
The new dining room and outdoor eating area is popular with the class, and the learners enjoy eating with their peers from both our class and across the upper key stages.
In an afternoon, the learning is split into two shorter sessions to support engagement levels. Three afternoons per week we have streamed phonics learning where we are developing our phonics, reading and writing skills. We have a department assembly once a week alongside a star of the week assembly.
At the end of each day learners work towards choosing time where they have the chance to play games or activities alone or with peers to support the end of day routines. Before going home, we like to reflect on our day; what we have learnt, what we enjoyed the most or what we are looking forward to that evening or the following day.
