Discoverers 2 learn across all areas of the National Curriculum while having plenty of opportunities to move, explore, and meet their sensory needs. Learning is guided by the Yeoman Park Academy Curriculum Waypoints, ensuring that every child learns at their own pace and builds on their individual strengths.
Each day begins with greeting our learners off the bus or when they arrive and either going outside for movement or explore sensory trays. During registration, learners practise communication and social skills by greeting each other, singing songs about the days, months and weather, and looking at the day’s timetable.
Our lessons involve lots of hands-on learning experiences that access our different senses and are often very visual and practical. Throughout the day we plan in regular movement and regulation activities to support our learners’ individual needs.
We enjoy our snack and lunch times, sharing these times together as a class, providing more opportunities for social interaction and communication. We have regular breaks outside on our playground, supporting our learners develop social interaction, communication, and gross motor skills, with access to bikes and other equipment that support sensory regulation.
