The middle team is for learners aged 11 to 14, with five classes – C5, C6, C7, C8 and C9 where learners are grouped by their age and needs. All classes are for learners who have severe or moderate learning difficulties combined with ASD or other diagnoses such as Down’s Syndrome.

Each class in the middle team has on average eight learners, a teacher and at least two teaching assistants. There are also personal care assistants and healthcare assistants working across the team. Sometimes a learner may move classes early or during the year to ensure that they are learning in the best environment we can provide.

Our job is to help young people cope with their learning disability and how best to manage issues that each day brings – our learners are at the heart of everything we do. We also like to get out and about in the community and use our skills in the real world. Class teams work together to plan a wide range of theme based lessons that are engaging and motivating for the learners in their classes. Across the team we prioritise lessons and activities that will help our learners to develop their communication, self-help and life skills, and independence.
