At Yeoman Park Academy, we are always proud of our staff, and recently we witnessed something truly inspiring. One of our teaching assistants, Jo Kerr, ran the Great North Run on Sunday 7 September to raise money for our academy, completing the course in an incredible three hours, 25 minutes, and 23 seconds, raising a fantastic £550 for the children.
Jo shared her journey with us, saying that she made a career change in her late 40s, moving from administrative work to being in the classroom with our learners. She has now been a teaching assistant at Yeoman Park for almost eight years, and this new role allows her to make a direct difference in the lives of the children she supports every day.
Running has been a long-time goal for Jo, and she only started training at the age of 50. Her friend, encouraged her to enter the ballot for the Great North Run half marathon in September. At first, Jo did not expect to be accepted, but when she was, she committed herself to completing the run entirely while raising funds for the academy.
We are inspired by Jo’s determination, courage, and dedication to our learners. Her achievement demonstrates the incredible spirit of our team and the ways they go above and beyond to support the children of Yeoman Park Academy.
We want to say a huge congratulations to Jo for this amazing accomplishment and to thank all those who have contributed to her fundraising efforts. The £550 raised will make a real difference for our school and the children we are privileged to teach.
If you would still like to contribute and support our learners, donations can be made through Jo’s just giving page.
