Governor name
James Coope
Governor role
Appointed Governor
Why did you become a governor?
I became a co-opted governor because, as a parent of a child attending Diverse Academies, I have a strong personal interest in the educational development of children and in promoting inclusive opportunities for all. I’m passionate about helping every child reach their potential, regardless of background.
My professional experience as a project manager has equipped me with key transferable skills – such as strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and risk management – which I believe can add value to the governance of the school. Additionally, I’m keen to support students by offering careers advice and helping them explore pathways into further education and employment.
How did you find out about the role?
I found out about the role on the Diverse Academies website which prompted me to apply.
What do you like about the role, and how do governors make a difference?
I really value the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the school and help ensure that all students have access to a high-quality, inclusive education.
As a governor, I’ve enjoyed working collaboratively with other board members, using my experience as a project manager to support planning, decision-making, and problem-solving.
It’s rewarding to know that governors play a key role in holding the school leadership to account, ensuring resources are used effectively, and that safeguarding and educational standards are maintained.
I particularly appreciate that I will be able to offer careers advice and help shape opportunities that prepare students for life beyond school. Governors make a difference by being a critical friend—supporting and challenging the school to be the best it can be for every child.
