The middle team is for pupils aged 11 to 14, with four classes – M1, M2, M3 and M4 where pupils are grouped by their age and needs.
M1 is for pupils who require a high level of support to meet their complex learning, physical, sensory and medical needs. The other three classes are for pupils who have severe or moderate learning difficulties combined with ASD or other diagnoses such as Down’s Syndrome.
Each class in the secondary team has on average eight pupils, a teacher and at least two teaching assistants. There are also three personal care assistants and a healthcare assistant working across the team. Sometimes a student may move classes early or during the year to ensure that they are learning in the best environment we can provide.
Our job is to help young people cope with their learning disability and how best to manage issues that each day brings – our pupils are at the heart of everything we do. We also like to get out and about in the community and use our skills in the real world.
Class teams work together to plan a wide range of theme based lessons that are engaging and motivating for the students in their classes. Across the team we prioritise lessons and activities that will help our pupils to develop their communication, self-help and life skills, and independence.
